The project consists of two components: a two-story, 1,500 Sq. Ft. lobby to serve a new Red Door Spa, coffee shop, and future tenants; and a 4,800 Sq. Ft. salon and spa designed in collaboration with Testani Design Troupe.
The project is located within an existing outdoor mall in the prestigious Biltmore area of Phoenix. This property has historical significance in the city, as it’s a classic example of mid-century modern architecture. Over the years layers of other styles have been applied to it, but some of the true original architecture still shines through. One example is the precast concrete panels lining the upper frieze of the existing buildings. These geometric patterns are a true classic mid-century language of interpretive organic forms. The new screen has a pattern that was derived from these panels. It was important to us that any new architecture being applied should pay homage to its true roots of this mid-century language.
The new façade was built using modern eco-friendly materials such as cast concrete, L.E.D lighting panels, reconstituted wood panels, aluminum, cold rolled steel and glass. The L.E.D panels provide an energy efficient beacon of light at night, which denotes the entry from across the parking lot.
Ultimately, the new entry element is a timeless balance of strong masculine forms, with a delicate feminine element.
